Elderly Cats and Health Problems

I have many cats seventeen in fact, where I live when a cat gets older people do not want them because of health issues and they are left to die.

They wander the streets with their eyes popping out and heads bigger than their body some will turn savage because of the suffering.

Cats unlike dogs can survive, I have known cats to live off bread and scraps they will go under homes and find food where they can, and some will become good hunters they suffer from the elements and it is tough.

However, an ageing cat does not mean health problems and be discarded like unwanted waste, I have taken many a cat on, in no time they are healthy and very loving.

A lot of the issues with cats is normally diet and treats, a cat is naturally a carnivore and they need good food like us, they need to be able to exercise and have toys and areas for them to play and run about.

I have found a lot of the issues I have had with the cats is from previous owners feeding them dog meat and biscuits because they now want dogs and not cats, or cannot cope with having a few cats so they get given to people who do not want them.

Cats are very emotional creatures; I love all of them they want my attention and to be stable they need to belong they have become very attached and you can see the friendships within the pack.

Vitamins and minerals and special treatment to help with some of the ageing cats’ problems, kidney and diabetes is often the main issue and this is mainly due to diet or just age.

The other issue which is with any aged cat is fleas and worms paying attention to your cats helps a lot with keeping in control.

Cats can often suffer a decline in functioning, including their cognitive functioning, which affects more than 55% of cats aged 11 to 15 years and more than 80% of cats aged 16 to 20 years. Their ability to learn, awareness, and sight and hearing perception can all deteriorate in cats this can affect sleep patterns dealing with these problems as they arise and understanding the behaviour patterns.

Most of my cats are now getting on in years, they are all healthy a couple need attention some of the issues have come from emotional trauma and this has affected them health wise as well as fitting in with the others. I pay attention to them on their terms a cat will soon let you know if they do not want to be fussed or have attention this also helps with keeping them healthy.

Very important that all cat trays are kept clean this is how animals catch from each other as well as bedding and their teeth this also causes illness and affects organs.

At night is when cats are more acceptable to danger I always make every effort to get all my cats in the other day a cat was hit by a car near where I live, it also impresses on them that you care and they will get used to coming inside.
