Farting and Cats

In fact, it is natural for a body to pass gas, especially very smelly gas, some farts do not produce odour at all both are typically considered normal.

So, what does cause smelly flatulence?  this can range from harmless to potentially severe and can be several potential causes.

Can be intolerance to certain foods, high fiber in food or if your animal is on certain medications, constipation, or bacteria or infections, the cat may need further worming. Colon Cancer or other health issues like tumours.

Let’s investigate some of the issues.

Food tolerance is a very common cause of bad odour flatulence this includes lactose and gluten intolerance's the body’s inability to beak down lactose and gluten causes smelly gas to build up and eventually release.

Can be celiac disease this is an autoimmune disease that causes injuries to the digestive tract this is found in wheat products. Some of the conditions can be weight loss, bloating, diarrhoea and fatigue change of diet may help.

Medications: One of the more common culprits is antibiotics they can kill off some of the healthful or good bacteria in the digestive tract while they work to destroy an infection. With the removal of good bacteria this causes an imbalance in the digestive tract which leads to producing bad smelling gas this can also lead to uncomfortable bloating and constipation.

Bacteria and Infections: The digestive tract is responsible for breaking down foods into usable nutrients which are absorbed into the blood stream. This produces waste which is passed through the colon.

Digestive tract will rely on several components to work effectively, including its resident good bacteria when this comes imbalanced this can lead to potentially an infection which will cause smelly excessive gas, and can result in pain in the abdomen, diarrhoea, fever, vomiting, fatigue.

Cancer and Tumours: Cancerous polyps or tumours can form blockages that cause gas to build up in the intestine.
